Murphy’s Camping on the Ocean

You will find Murphy’s Camping on the Ocean, a 50-site campground for both tents and RVs, in Murphy Cove along the scenic Eastern Shore. In 2020, Murphy’s celebrated their 60th year in business! Their mission is “to provide an unforgettable camping experience by creating a friendly and hospitable atmosphere with untethered access to the 100 Wild Islands”.

Murphy’s Camping on the Ocean is a true family business, having been passed down since its inception in 1960, and now operated by a 7th generation Murphy to live and work in the community. The campground had an organic start after the founder started running sport fishing charters that departed early in the morning, leading to the participants pitching tents on the property so that they could be ready to go bright and early.

You can still take various boat tours from the campground around the Wild Islands archipelago, some on their locally-built boat named “Murphy’s Legacy”. Besides the breathtaking coastal scenery, Murphy’s Camping on the Ocean is also known for its “down home” hospitality. Guests can grab their morning coffee at the “Sailor’s Rest”, partake in a game of crib with the owner, and share stories with other campers around a communal campfire as the sun sets (though these activities may look a little different than they used to, adhering to COVID-19 protocols). Packages are available that include kayak rentals, live lobsters, and homemade bread.

Welcoming guests from over 60 countries in the last 10 years alone, this gem has been recognized as one of the “Top 10 Best Campgrounds in Canada” by the Globe & Mail, and has been mentioned in many popular publications including the Lonely Planet travel guide, the Washington Post, and Canadian Geographic.

Murphy’s Camping on the Ocean is eager to welcome guests from across the province and beyond, now that COVID-19 restrictions have started to ease. If you have never been, this is the summer to go check them out! Book your reservation on their website: https://www.murphyscamping.ca/
