Halifax Surf School
Mark Moore worked for a decade at different surf and kitesurfing schools around the world in order to gain the watersport industry experience he is now using as the owner/operator of Halifax Surf School. Now wrapping up its 6th year at Martinique Beach, Halifax Surf School has also recently expanded to include a summer location at Clam Harbour Beach, as well!
Halifax Surf School offers daily surfing lessons, surfing rentals, and a small surf-related retail shop. They operate 7 days a week from May-October. Martinique Beach was chosen as an ideal location for this business because of its picturesque beauty, consistent waves, and proximity to the city, drawing clients to the community for single-day excursions. Mark says that he loves the Musquodoboit community and is glad to be able to share the spillover secondary economic benefits that Halifax Surf School’s surfers bring to the local area.
When asked about the favourite part of his job, Mark says: “Without a doubt helping families to create lasting memories. It’s fantastic to get people standing on the first waves of their lives and watching kids get excited about the ocean. It’s contagious to make people happy”. For many of Halifax Surf School’s customers, it is their very first surfing experience, and they often give the feedback that it was the highlight of their summer!
Halifax Surf School proudly employs 7 seasonal staff and were once nominated by the Halifax Chamber of Commerce for “Small Business of the Year”.
